EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Jackson County On June 11, 2010


Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, June 11, 2010. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. The checkpoint was located on Independence Avenue at Monroe Street. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 492 cars were checked during this five-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, and Jackson County Sheriff's Department made the following arrests:

28 -- DWI
4 -- driver’s license summonses
25 -- misdemeanor warrants
2 -- non-moving summonses
2 -- felony drug arrests
1 -- felony arrest, illegal possession of a firearm
65 -- warnings

Captain Powell stated, "Do not let your life or someone else’s life be ruined by an alcohol-related crash or arrest. If you are going to drink, have a plan. Make sure that plan includes a designated driver."
