EMPHASIS: Patrol Assists With The Capture Of Robbery Suspect
Five members of Troop H, along with the Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control assisted in the capture of a subject who led officers on a chase after robbing two businesses in northwest Missouri.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. the suspect walked into the Trenton Hy-Vee pharmacy and robbed the clerk of a quantity of narcotics. During his getaway, a citizen wrote down the license plate number of the 2000 Ford Explorer as the suspect drove away from the scene.
At 10:19, a subject that matched the description of the Hy-Vee robber robbed the Pitt Stop in Winston. Members of Troop H were working a traffic operation on the adjacent Interstate-35 near Cameron. The Troop H aircraft flew to the area of US69 north of Cameron and observed a vehicle matching the description of the Explorer heading to Cameron. A Cameron Police Officer met the vehicle just north of the city and reported it to a Troop H member who successfully deployed a set of spike strips. Two more spike strips were successfully deployed as the Cameron Police Department chased the vehicle into the city of Cameron. The suspect turned west on US 36 and drove into the median and stopped. He stepped out of the Explorer and held a gun to his own head. A three-minute standoff developed, before a Cameron Officer shot the suspect with a less than lethal beanbag round to the stomach. The suspect fell to the ground and was arrested without further incident.
The suspect was identified as Scott M. Schwartz, age 40, of Trenton. Scott Schwartz was transported from the scene by ambulance and taken to the Cameron Regional Medical Center for treatment of a broken arm that occured during his arrest.
The charges for which the individual has been arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
