EMPHASIS: Troop E Officers Respond to Helicopter Crash in Stoddard County



On June 25, 2003, at approximately 10:05 a.m., the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop E received notification of a helicopter crash in Stoddard County near the rural community of Circle City, approximately four miles north of US 60 on Route N. The crash resulted in the death of the pilot, Joe D. Criddle, 41, Corinth, MS. Initial reports indicate there were no passengers in the aircraft at the time of the crash.



The initial information indicates Criddle was crop dusting when the aircraft struck a nearby power line. The helicopter crashed a short distance from the impact and the structure became engulfed in flames.



The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the crash and is expected to arrive at approximately 3:30 p.m today. The scene will continue to be secured by officers from the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol until federal investigators can assume control.



The Missouri State Highway Patrol received assistance from the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, Essex Fire and 1st Responders, Stoddard County EMS, and the Dexter Fire Department.



The exact cause of the accident is unknown at this time and will be determined by the FAA.
