EMPHASIS: Missouri State Trooper Receives Sustains Injuries
On August 16, 2007, at 12:58 a.m., members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted the Clay County Sheriffs Department, Jackson County Sheriffs Department, and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department in the pursuit of a stolen vehicle that was occupied by two subjects. The vehicle had become disabled and stopped on the northbound entrance ramp to U.S. Highway 71 and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard.
The occupants refused to exit the vehicle. A beanbag round was deployed through the back window of the vehicle and OC spray was administered through the back window. When the occupants exited the vehicle they attempted to flee on foot. An officer from the Kansas City Police Department deployed his K-9. A member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and one suspect were bitten by the K-9. The suspect was taken to Liberty Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released. The member of the Highway Patrol received two bites. He was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was treated and released.
The recovery of the stolen auto and the arrests of the two suspects is being handled by the Clay County Sheriffs Department.
