EMPHASIS: Troop D announces hazardous moving enforcement operations.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be conducting several special enforcement operations within the next few months throughout the 18 County Troop D areas. Troopers will be out enforcing all traffic laws, but will be paying close attention to violators who break particular laws on specific days. On prescribed days troopers, dedicated to this special enforcement, will direct efforts toward violators who fail to yield. On another day subjects who follow too close will be the emphasis. Other violations that will be watched closely for on scheduled days will be signal violations, stop signs and improper lane violations. This is an effort to re-educate the motoring public that performing the simple things while driving will ensure safe travel and create less stress. The goal of the Patrol is to enforce traffic laws, by making as many contacts with violators as possible, including warnings, while educating the driver.

The first of these operations will be conducted on March 14, 2005 in Greene County. Troopers will pay close attention to motorists who fail to move to the left or slow when approaching emergency vehicles on the shoulder. In August of 2002 a new law was enacted requiring motorists to move to the left, if possible, or slow down to a safe speed when approaching emergency vehicles on the shoulders with their lights flashing.

The Patrol invites media members to contact Sergeant Dan Bracker at the above number and extension to reserve a time to ride and observe the operation from a safe location. This is an aggressive campaign, which involves five troopers for a span of 8 hours that could consist of several car stops.
