EMPHASIS: Corporal Michael Webster Memorial Blood Drive

Captain Vincent J. Ellis, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the 14th Annual Corporal Michael Webster Memorial Blood Drive. The blood drive will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Troop A Headquarters, Lee’s Summit.
The blood drive is an annual event held to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol. Corporal Webster was killed on October 2, 1993, by a drunk driver while standing next to a vehicle he had stopped for a traffic violation. The Patrol, along with the Community Blood Center of Kansas City, hosts the blood drive to emphasize the seriousness associated with alcohol-related traffic crashes. Blood is an essential element that may help to save the life of someone who has been involved in a traffic crash.
Alcohol was involved in 4.9 of every 100 traffic crashes and 25.1 of all fatal traffic crashes during 2006. Drunk drivers injured more than 5,000 persons, and 270 persons were killed from crashes involving alcohol last year.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the employees of Troop A would like to invite the public to come by Troop A Headquarters and donate blood. Appointments to donate blood can be made online at www.esavealifenow.org and use Sponsor Code mostatehwypatrol1, by stopping by Troop A Headquarters, or by calling 816-622-0800.
