On December 15, 2007, at approximately 6:39 p.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a silver Kia Sorento on Missouri Highway 13 south of NW 51 Road for speeding. The trooper detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 500 grams of marijuana from under the front passenger seat.
The driver, Ronald Chavez Sr., 48, and the passengers, Brandi A. Payne, 24, and Randall S. Curry, 32, all of Kansas City, Missouri, were arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. All three were transported to the Henry County Jail.
The charge for which Ronald Chavez Sr., Brandi A. Payne, and Randall S. Curry, were arrested for is a mere accusation and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
