EMPHASIS: Criminal Investigation And Methamphetamine Totals For 2007
Captain Luke Vislay, director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control, announces the 2007 criminal investigation enforcement statistics for the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control and the statewide methamphetamine incident totals.
During 2007, 120 employees were assigned to the Division of Drug and Crime Control, 90 of whom are law enforcement officers called upon to conduct a wide range of criminal investigations across the state. The division assists and supports local, county, and federal agencies in the investigation of crimes and is committed to providing effective and professional assistance. The 30 civilian employees are utilized in investigation and support roles.
The 2007 investigative totals are separated into the following categories:

The Division of Drug and Crime Control was established in 1983, and operates throughout the state of Missouri under the guidelines set forth in Chapter 43 of the Revised Missouri Statutes. The field offices are located at each troop headquarters of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The 2007 Clandestine Methamphetamine Laboratory totals have been released from the Midwest HIDTA office in Jefferson City, and Missouri leads the nation again in the total number of laboratory incidents. Missouri totals remained virtually the same as 2006 (1,284). Missouri reported 1,285 lab seizures in 2007. The first half of 2007 showed a continued downward trend, but the second half of the year indicated a rise in seizures. This trend demonstrates that smurfing (going from pharmacy to pharmacy to purchase pseudoephedrine) is occurring as the methamphetamine cooks become comfortable with the pseudoephedrine law.
