EMPHASIS: Shooting Incident In Adair County
On Friday, May 9, 2008, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Troop B officers were called to assist the Adair County Sheriff’s Department with a reported shooting incident at 21809 Elmwood Trail, in rural Adair County. After officers arrived at the scene and it was secured, the Kirksville Police Department Special Response Team was activated to make entry into the residence. Upon entry officers discovered a 48-year-old Kirksville resident dead of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control (Troop B Unit) was called to the scene to assist with the investigation of the incident. Preliminary information revealed a dispute had occurred between the 48-year-old gunshot victim and the resident of 21809 Elmwood Trail prior to the gunshot being fired. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2008, and the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control and Adair County Sheriff’s Department.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Adair County Sheriff’s Department were assisted by the Kirksville Police Department, Adair County Coroner, and the Adair County Prosecuting Attorney.
