EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Jackson County On May 13, 2011


Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, May 13, 2011. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department. The checkpoint was held from 11 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Saturday and was located at U.S. Highway 71 southbound at East 29th Street. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 757 cars were checked during this five-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following arrests:

17 -- DWI
3 -- driver’s license summonses
4 -- misdemeanor warrants
6 -- hazardous moving summonses
4 -- non-moving summonses
1 -- felony drug arrest
2 -- misdemeanor drug arrests
1 -- assault on law enforcement officer arrest
15 -- commercial vehicle inspections
2 -- commercial trucks placed out-of-service
60 -- warnings

Captain Powell stated, "The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."
