EMPHASIS: Patrol Releases Name Of Suspect Involved In Marion County Officer Involved Shooting Incident

On Saturday, December 1, 2007, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Palmyra Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, and the Hannibal Police Department were involved in the apprehension of a suspect driving a stolen Ford pickup after he deliberately rammed three law enforcement vehicles, unsuccessfully attempted to car-jack another vehicle, and later stole a vehicle leading officers on another pursuit. The pursuit ended after the suspect vehicle crashed on Mo. 168, north of Hannibal, Missouri. Due to the suspect’s actions, the officers feared for their safety and discharged their service weapons at the suspect striking him in the torso area. The suspect, Peter A. Jamerson, 27, of Homewood, Illinois, was taken to the Hannibal Regional Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
As a part of the ongoing investigation, an autopsy has been scheduled sometime in the next few days. The Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper directly involved in the shooting incident has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure, pending the outcome of the investigation. The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is conducting the on-going investigation.
