EMPHASIS: Retirement Of Sergeant Al Nothum

Captain Norman A. Murphy, acting commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces effective July 1, 2017, longtime Troop C Public Information and Education Officer Sergeant Al Nothum will retire from the Missouri State Highway Patrol with over 21 years of dedicated service.

Sgt. Nothum was appointed to the Patrol on June 1, 1996, as a member of the 72nd Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol Academy, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 10, Franklin County. On August 23, 2002, Nothum became a Troop C public information and education officer. On May 4, 2003, he was promoted to corporal and remained in his assignment as a public information and education officer. On April 30, 2006, Nothum was promoted to sergeant and became supervisor of the unit. It is from this assignment that Sgt. Nothum retires. As a public information and education officer, Sgt. Nothum was responsible for providing public presentations and maintaining a relationship with media outlets in the Troop C area. During his 16 years as a public information and education officer, Sgt. Nothum developed a rapport of mutual respect with the media and formed close ties to many citizens in the area. Sgt. Nothum was instrumental in building strong relationships between the Missouri State Highway Patrol and many citizens and businesses. Although Sgt. Nothum has reached the end of his service with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, his legacy of living the Patrol’s core values and representing the agency will continue through his successor.

To honor the occasion of Sgt. Nothum’s retirement, a reception will take place at 1 p.m. on June 13, at Troop C Headquarters. Anyone who would like to congratulate Sgt. Nothum on his retirement is welcome to attend.
