EMPHASIS: Lt. Michael D. Hargus To Retire June 1, 2022

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement:

Lieutenant Michael D. Hargus, Aircraft Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO, will retire June 1, 2022, after over 27 years of dedicated service.

Hargus was appointed to the Patrol on November 1, 1994, as a member of the 68th Recruit Class. Upon completing his training at the Patrol's Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop G, Zone 6, Howell and Oregon counties. On February 6, 2005, he was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Troop G, Zone 3, Shannon and Howell counties. He transferred to Troop G, Zone 7, Howell and Oregon counties as assistant zone supervisor on July 1, 2007. Hargus transferred to the Aircraft Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, on December 6, 2009. While serving in the Aircraft Division, he was promoted to sergeant on December 1, 2010. On August 1, 2014, he was promoted to lieutenant and designated assistant director of the Aircraft Division. Hargus has achieved the following flight experience: Airplane-single engine land rating with commercial and instrument privileges; airplane multi-engine land rating with commercial and instrument privileges; rotorcraft/helicopter instrument rating; and rotorcraft/helicopter rating with commercial privileges and certified flight instructor.

Lieutenant Hargus grew up in Exeter, MO, and graduated from Exeter High School in 1989. Hargus attended the College of the Ozarks majoring in criminal justice with a minor in psychology while working as a police officer for the city of Branson, MO. He and his wife, Lori (Nelson), have six children and three grandchildren.
