Troop E Releases Memorial Day Enforcement Totals
Captain Jeffrey N. Vitale, commanding officer of Troop E, Poplar Bluff, announces the 2017 Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and traffic enforcement totals for the Troop E area, which consists of the 13 southeastern counties of Missouri. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness Reduction Effort), and, as an added enforcement effort, also conducted a peak travel crash reduction operation on Interstate 55, on Friday, May 26, and Monday, May 29, 2017.
During the 2017 Memorial Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m., Friday, May 26, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, May 29, 2017, Troop E officers investigated 34 traffic crashes resulting in 15 injuries and zero fatalities. Preliminary enforcement totals show troopers issued 344 citations for exceeding the posted speed limit, 79 citations for seat belt violations, and 726 warnings. Officers also made five arrests for driving while intoxicated and four drug-related arrests.
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain Vitale
.
The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober.
“Don’t Violate The Trust.”
