DWI Sobriety Checkpoint Announcement -- Boone County
Captain Michael A. Turner, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, announces that sometime during the month of May 2017, a sobriety checkpoint will be held in Boone County. Motorists will be contacted for the limited purpose of determining if they are impaired by alcohol or other drugs. All efforts will be made to keep the process as brief as possible. If the officer suspects a driver to be under the influence of intoxicants and/or drugs, they will be asked to submit to a field sobriety test(s).
Preliminary crash statistics indicate at least 164 alcohol/drug-related traffic crashes occurred in Boone County in calendar year 2016, resulting in 10 fatalities and 96 injuries.
Sobriety checkpoints are just one method the Missouri State Highway Patrol utilizes to combat preventable injury and death caused by impaired drivers.
“Each year, many motorists are arrested for driving while intoxicated because of these checkpoint operations,” said Captain Turner. “If just one life is saved or a needless traffic crash is prevented, then the time and effort our troopers put into these enforcement operations is well worth it.”
The only 100 percent survivable crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober
. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
