Troop B Announces Promotions
Captain Erik A. Gottman, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the following promotions effective March 1, 2023.
Trooper Mark W. Hicks will be promoted to the rank of corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor of Zone 8, Marion and Ralls counties.
Hicks was appointed to the Patrol on February 1, 1998. After graduating from the Patrol Academy, he was assigned to Troop B, Zone 5, Adair and Schuyler counties. On January 1, 2001, he transferred to Troop F, Zone 4, Audrain County. On December 15, 2004, he transferred to Troop B, Zone 8, Marion and Ralls counties. On May 31, 2009, he transferred to the Gaming Division and was assigned to Mark Twain Casino. On November 24, 2019, he transferred to Troop B, Zone 7, Knox and Lewis counties. On April 1, 2020, he transferred to Zone 9, Marion and Ralls counties.
Hicks is a native of Vandalia, Missouri, and graduated from Van-Far High School. After graduation, he served four years in the U.S. Army. Following his service in the Army, Hicks worked for the Audrain County Sheriff’s Department for three years prior to joining the Patrol. He and his wife, Jill (Graff) Hicks, have two daughters, Sophie and Maggie.
Trooper Matthew J. Lewis will be promoted to the rank of corporal, and will remain as the Troop B inventory control and supply officer.
Lewis was appointed to the Patrol on January 8, 2006, and after graduating from the Patrol Academy was assigned to Troop H, Zone 7, Clinton and Caldwell counties. On April 1, 2009, he transferred to Troop B, Zone 3, Linn and Chariton counties. On February 7, 2021, he was assigned as the Troop B property control and supply officer.
Lewis is a native of Brookfield, Missouri, and graduated from Brookfield High School. He attended Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, Missouri, and Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City, Missouri. He earned an associate degree from Mineral Area Community College in Park Hills, Missouri. He and his wife, Amy (Smith) Lewis, have three children.
