EMPHASIS: Novinger, Missouri, Resident Arrested On Drug Charges

On Tuesday, May 27, 2008, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, North Missouri Drug Task Force, and the Adair County Sheriff’s Department having prior knowledge of an active Adair County felony warrant for the arrest of Nathan J. McFarland, 22, of Novinger, Missouri, made contact with McFarland at a residence located at 29272 East Center Way, in rural Adair County. McFarland was subsequently arrested on the Adair County warrant for felony possession of a controlled substance. A consent to search the residence was granted and several controlled substances including: LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethlyamide), Cocaine, Heroin, Diazepam, Clonazepam, Phenobarbital, Butorphanol Tartrate, a misdemeanor amount of marijuana, along with other drug paraphernalia, and a large sum of United States currency were located. Medications used for veterinary purposes were located also, and it is believed these medications were stolen from a veterinary clinic in the Kirksville, Missouri, area on May 22, 2008.
Additionally, McFarland was arrested for the following charges: seven counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, felony stealing, felony possession of stolen property, possession of under 35 grams of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McFarland was taken to the Adair County Jail, where he is being held on a $100,000 bond.
The charges for which McFarland was arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
