EMPHASIS: Troop B Promotions and Transfer Effective September 16, 2026

Captain Brian N. Anderson, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the following promotions effective September 16, 2026.

Corporal Jonathan M. Conrad will be promoted to the rank of sergeant and remain in the marine operation division of Troop B.
Conrad was appointed to the Patrol on July 1, 2009, as a member of the 90th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 10, Franklin County. In January 2012, Conrad transferred to Troop C, Zone 5, Pike and Lincoln counties. He transferred to Troop B as a marine operations trooper in November 2014. In March 2021, Conrad transferred to Zone 8, Marion and Ralls counties. On January 1, 2022, he was promoted to corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor of Zone 6, Clark and Scotland counties. Conrad transferred to the Governor Security Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, in December 2022. In May 2026, he transferred to Troop B, Zone 13, marine operation division.
Sergeant Conrad attended Hannibal LaGrange College in Hannibal, MO, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice before his appointment to the Patrol.

Corporal Riley D. Johnson will be promoted to the rank of sergeant and designated zone commander of Zone 3, Linn and Chariton counties.
Johnson was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 2017, and after graduating from the Patrol Academy, was assigned to Troop E, Zone 9, New Madrid and Pemiscot counties. In November 2019, Johnson transferred to Troop B, Zone 9, Marion and Ralls counties. He transferred to Troop B, Zone 5, Adair and Schuyler counties, in August 2021. On June 1, 2023, Johnson was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Zone 6, Scotland, Clark, Knox, and Lewis counties.
Sergeant Johnson is a native of Kirksville, MO, and graduated from Kirksville High School. Prior to his appointment to the Patrol, he attended Moberly Area Community College in Kirksville, MO, where he graduated with an Associate of Arts in general studies. Sgt. Johnson is currently a non-commissioned officer in the United States Air Force.

Corporal Brett D. Tappendorf will be promoted to sergeant and designated zone commander of Zone 8, Marion and Ralls counties.
Tappendorf was appointed to the Patrol on February 1, 2010. Upon his graduation from the Patrol Academy, he was assigned to Zone 6, Clark and Scotland counties. On June 1, 2020, he was promoted to corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor of Zone 9, Marion and Ralls counties.
Sergeant Tappendorf graduated from St. Elmo High School in St. Elmo, IL. He holds an associate of science degree in network administration from Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL.

Trooper Dontai O. Johnson will be promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Zone 9, Marion and Ralls counties.
Johnson was appointed to the Patrol on July 1, 2019. Upon his graduation from the Patrol Academy, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 9, St. Charles County. In May 2023, he transferred to Troop B, Zone 9, Marion and Ralls counties.
Corporal Johnson graduated from Argo Community High School, in Summit, IL. He holds a Bachelors of Sciene in criminal justice from Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO.

Corporal Chad W. Walton will transfer from the Training Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, and be designated assistant zone supervisor of Troop B, Zone 2, Macon and Shelby counties.
Cpl. Walton was appointed to the Patrol on October 16, 2001, and after graduating from the Patrol Academy, was assigned to Troop B, Zone 7, Knox and Lewis counties. In August 2022, he was promoted to corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor of Zone 7. In June 2025, he transferred to the Training Division as an academy instructor.
He is a native of Sikeston, MO, and graduated from Scott County Central High School. He attended Coastal Carolina Community College in Sikeston, MO. Cpl. Walton served in the United States Marine Corps as a military police officer for six years and achieved the rank of sergeant.
