EMPHASIS: MSHP Investigates Officer Involved Shooting In Columbia, Missouri

At the request of the Columbia Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating an officer involved shooting in Columbia, MO.

The preliminary investigation revealed that on Saturday, February 1, 2025, the Columbia Police Department was requested to assist the Moberly Police Department in locating and apprehending a suspect in connection with a homicide in Moberly, Missouri. The suspect was identified as Timothy T. Turner, 37, of Columbia, Missouri.

At approximately 9 p.m., members of the Columbia Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) arrived at a residence in Columbia and attempted to make contact with Turner. Shortly after 10 p.m., Turner exited the residence armed with a knife, and did not comply with officers’ commands to drop the weapon. Law enforcement officers deployed less-lethal devices as well as a police canine, in an attempt to safely take Turner into custody. Shortly after, Columbia Police Department SWAT members fired their duty weapons, striking Turner. Medical aid was provided; however, Turner was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing by criminal investigators with the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control. Upon completion of the investigation, the reports will be forwarded to the Boone County Prosecuting Attorney for review.
