EMPHASIS: Death Of Corporal Gary T. Daniels
On Thursday, May 28, 2026, at approximately 2:55 p.m., the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper was shot on Callaway County Road 395, east of U.S. 63. The preliminary investigation found that Corporal Gary T. Daniels died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. Corporal Daniels was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on July 1, 2015.
This is an on-going investigation by the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Callaway County Coroner. To maintain the integrity of the investigation, no further details are being released. Further information will be shared as it becomes available and is appropriate to release.
