EMPHASIS: Missouri State Highway Patrol Invites Media To Attend Outdoor Firing Range Ribbon Ceremony

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, invites members of the media to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for its outdoor firing range at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. The ceremony will take place at the outdoor firing range, which is located on Missouri Highway 179 north of State Surplus Property (right side of the roadway). A map to the location is included with this news release on the Patrol’s website. Department of Public Safety Director Sandy Karsten and MSHP Colonel Olson will speak at the event.

Prior to this facility, the Patrol did not have an outdoor range. Troopers used ranges owned by the state or local agencies, and in some cases, private gun clubs. The new outdoor range will accommodate rifles, shotguns, and pistols. The facility includes a classroom, shoot house (concrete/ballistic structure for tactical training), bomb disposal area, and parking. The Patrol will use the facility 20 weeks a year. It may also be utilized by other agencies receiving training at the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy as well as those in the mid-Missouri area.

The Missouri Legislature appropriated funds for the range in the FY 2019 budget. The range was constructed on property already owned by the state.
