EMPHASIS: Mobile Meth Lab Seizure
On January 19, 2004, at approximately 12:45 A.M., a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped a blue 1988 Mercury Cougar that was traveling over the posted speed limit on U.S. 71 just south of Rt. FF in Newton County. After stopping the vehicle the trooper discovered the license plates did not belong to the vehicle and the driver was not wearing a seat belt. Further checking revealed two outstanding Jasper County felony warrants for controlled substance violations for the driver, John. T. DeGraw, 26, of Joplin, Missouri. DeGraw was arrested and incarcerated in the Newton County Jail.
A search incident to the arrest of DeGraw and the vehicle revealed a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in the vehicle. Officers found and seized approximately ½ ounce of finished methamphetamine and approximately 12 ounces of methamphetamine oil in addition to numerous chemicals, glassware, and hazardous waste products. It is estimated this lab operation had the capability of producing approximately 1 pound of finished methamphetamine.
The charges for which John T. DeGraw has been arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
