EMPHASIS: Bethany, MO, Woman Arrested/Charged With Stealing and Financial Exploitation Of The Elderly

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) announces the arrest of Lee Ann M. Miles, 46, Bethany, MO, for Stealing (25,000.00 or more) and Financial Exploitation of the Elderly/Disabled Person. This arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by Troop H Criminal Investigation Unit.

In July 2026, the Bethany Police Department requested DDCC to conduct an investigation regarding theft/fraud allegations involving the Harrison County Clerk. Over the next several months, investigators followed up on investigative leads and developed information corroborating the allegations. DDCC investigators continued their investigation and discovered Miles had been entrusted/hired to oversee an elderly person’s financial responsibilities. During the investigation, it was determined from November 2023 through July 2026, Miles made more than 500 transactions from the victim’s account to an account owned by Miles. DDCC investigators subsequently developed probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Miles.

At the Harrison County Prosecutor’s request, the Daviess County Prosecutor was appointed as the special prosecutor to the case. DDCC investigators completed a probable cause statement documenting their findings and forwarded it to the Daviess County Prosecutor for consideration of formal charges.

On October 16, 2026, the Daviess County Prosecutor formally charged Miles with one count of Stealing ($25,000 or more) and one count of Financial Exploitation of an Elderly/Disabled Person. Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, law enforcement located and apprehended Miles at approximately 3:00 p.m. that same day. She was transported to the Daviess/Dekalb Regional Jail, where she is currently being held without bond.

The charges for which the above individual was arrested are mere accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
