EMPHASIS: Captain Jerry C. West Retires Effective July 1, 2020

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement:

Captain Jerry C. West, director of the Training Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO, retires effective July 1, 2020.

West was appointed to the Patrol on August 3, 1986, as a member of the 58th Recruit Class. Upon graduating from the Patrol's Academy, he was assigned to Troop F, Zone 3, Boone County. On February 1, 1994, West was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone commander of Zone 3, Columbia, MO. He was promoted to sergeant and designated zone commander of that same zone on December 1, 1996. On June 29, 2003, West transferred to the Training Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, as an instructor. He was promoted to lieutenant and designated assistant director of the Training Division on February 6, 2007. On April 16, 2010, he transferred to the Human Resources Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, as an assistant director. West returned to the Training Division as assistant director on July 1, 2013. He was promoted to the rank of captain and designated director of the Training Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO, on May 1, 2017.

Captain West was born in Poplar Bluff, MO. He graduated from Camdenton High School in Camdenton, MO, in 1980. He graduated from Leadership in Police Organizations training in 2017. Capt. West and his wife, Tara, have four children.
