EMPHASIS: MSHP Releases Labor Day Holiday Statistics

Five people died in traffic crashes and one person drowned during the 2025 Labor Day holiday weekend. The 2025 counting period for the Labor Day holiday was from 6 p.m., Friday, August 29, through 11:59 p.m., Monday, September 1.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the following enforcement activity during 2025 Labor Day holiday:

Injuries - 104
Fatalities - 5
DWI - 100
Drug Arrests - 14

MSHP Boating Statistics (preliminary):

Crashes - 3
Injuries - 4
Fatalities - 0
BWI - 9
Drownings - 1

2025 Labor Day Holiday Boating Statistics

Troopers investigated three boating crashes, which included four injuries and zero fatalities. Troopers made nine boating while intoxicated arrests. One person drowned over the holiday weekend. The drowning occurred in the Troop F, Jefferson City, area.

Drowning Incident

The drowning occurred on Saturday, August 30, 2025. A 19-year-old male from Glenwood, IL, entered the water by unknown means and did not resurface. The drowning occurred on Lake of the Ozarks, at Public Beach Two, in Camden County.


2025 Labor Day Holiday Traffic Statistics

Troopers worked 222 traffic crashes, which included 104 injuries and five fatalities. Troopers also made 100 DWI arrests.

Fatality Traffic Crashes

One fatality occurred in each of the following Troops: Troop A, Lee’s Summit, Troop C, Weldon Spring, Troop D, Springfield, Troop E, Poplar Bluff, and Troop G, Willow Spring.

No one was killed during the counting period on Friday, August 29, 2025.

Two people died during the counting period on Saturday, August 30, 2025. A 52-year-old man from Clarkton, MO, died when the motorcycle he was driving drove off a dead-end road and into a ditch. The crash occurred on a farm road one mile east of Clarkton in New Madrid County. The male was pronounced dead at the scene by New Madrid County Coroner George Delisle. He was not wearing a helmet.

A 48-year-old female pedestrian from Excelsior Springs, MO, was killed while walking on southbound Missouri 291, north of Middlebrook Drive, in Clay County. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedic Cameron Conrad. The 22-year-old driver of the vehicle was unable to avoid the collision. He was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Liberty Police Department.

Two people were killed on Sunday, August 31, 2025. A 46-year-old man from Bunker, MO, died when the vehicle he was driving traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected, traveled off the left side of the road, and overturned. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. The crash occurred on westbound Missouri 72, 10 miles east of Bunker, in Reynolds County. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Washington County Ambulance District Paramedic Melissa Sansoucie.

A 42-year-old male pedestrian was killed while attempting to walk across Missouri 364, near Jungermann, in St. Charles County. He was struck by an eastbound vehicle that was unable to avoid the collision. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 23-year-old driver sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was transported by St. Charles County Ambulance to Progress West Hospital. She was not wearing a seat belt.

One person was killed on Monday, September 1, 2025. A 16-year-old male was killed when he was making a turn and the UTV he was driving overturned. The crash occurred on private property three miles east of Anderson in McDonald County. The driver was not utilizing a safety device. He was pronounced dead at the scene by McDonald County Coroner John Fletcher.


NOTE: The fatality statistics in this news release could change if late deaths occur, if other departments report fatalities after this news release was sent out, or if a fatality is determined to be caused by a medical condition rather than a traffic/boating/drowning incident.
