EMPHASIS: Sergeant Brent J. Bernhardt Retires

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces effective March 1, 2017, Troop B Public Information and Education Officer Sergeant Brent J. Bernhardt will retire from the Missouri State Highway Patrol with over 27 years of dedicated service.
Bernhardt was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 1990, as a member of the 62nd Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol Academy, he was assigned to Troop B, Zone 10, Randolph and Monroe counties, and was stationed in Paris, Missouri. On January 1, 1996, he was promoted to corporal and designated the assistant zone commander of Zone 2, Macon and Shelby counties, and was stationed in Macon, Missouri. On August 1, 1997, he was designated as the Troop B public information and education officer, and on March 1, 1998 was promoted to sergeant. It is from this assignment that Bernhardt retires. As the public information and education officer, Bernhardt was responsible for providing public presentations and media relations in the Troop B area. During his tenure, Bernhardt was assigned to numerous special assignments, including being assigned to the Missouri State Fair Detail for 21 years.
Sergeant Bernhardt is a native of Macon, MO. He graduated from Macon R-1 High School in Macon, MO, in May 1982. Prior to his appointment to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, he served as a police officer in Moberly, Missouri, for four years. He is married to Brenda (Pelfrey) and they have two grown children: Brandon Bernhardt of Kansas City, Missouri; and Brooke Bernhardt of Rochester, Minnesota.
