EMPHASIS: Troop A Announces Promotions

Captain Steve Wilhoit, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee's Summit, announces effective September 1, 2024, Corporal Ricky J. Chapman and Corporal Jerod J. B. Crump have been promoted to the rank of sergeant. Chapman will be designated as the zone supervisor of Zone 16, serving the citizens of Benton County, and Crump will remain within his current assignment as a Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Trooper.

Chapman was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on January 7, 2007, as a member of the 86th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 16, Benton County. On July 1, 2016, Chapman was promoted to corporal and remained within Zone 16, continuing to serve the citizens of Benton County.

Sergeant Chapman was born in Lebanon, MO. He graduated from Buffalo High School, in Buffalo, MO, in 2000. In 2005, Sergeant Chapman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology from Missouri State University, in Springfield, MO. Sergeant Chapman is married to Jill, and they have four daughters and two grandchildren.

Crump was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on July 1, 2010, as a member of the 92nd Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 12, Johnson County. On June 1, 2017, Crump was promoted to corporal and remained within Zone 12, continuing to serve the citizens of Johnson County. In 2019, Crump transferred to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control and served within the Troop A region as a Criminal Investigator. In 2021, Crump transferred back to Troop A and began serving the 13-county region as a Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Trooper.

Sergeant Crump was born in Clinton, MO. He graduated from Clinton High School, in Clinton, MO, in 1999. In 2003, Sergeant Crump earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Central Missouri, in Warrensburg, MO. In 2004, Sergeant Crump earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Missouri, in Columbia, MO. Sergeant Crump is married to Jamie, and they have four children.
