EMPHASIS: Missouri State Highway Patrol Youth Academy Program

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Career Recruitment Division will host a newly created Youth Academy Program from June 12-16, 2017, at Sunnyhill Adventures in Dittmer, Missouri. This program is a five-day, residential course for youth ages 16-18 who are considering a career in law enforcement. The media is invited to attend the Youth Academy Program’s graduation ceremony at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Maryland Heights Community Center, 2300 McKelvey Road, Maryland Heights.

Thirty area youth have been selected to attend the 2017 program. The Youth Academy Program will provide a unique, hands-on experience for the youth participants that shows them the role of law enforcement within our community. Cadets will experience a variety of presentations illustrating the different careers within the criminal justice field, including patrol officer, crash investigation, SWAT, marine operations, first aid, and criminal investigations. The program is designed to create an environment that fosters teamwork, instills discipline, and emphasizes character building.

The purpose of the Youth Academy Program is to create and nurture positive relationships between youth and law enforcement. Volunteers for the Youth Academy Program are all members or civilian employees of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Camp staff will participate alongside the youth participants in physical fitness, practical exercises, and team building activities, as well as share meals throughout the week.

The 2017 Missouri State Highway Patrol Youth Academy Program has been funded entirely by private donations from individuals and businesses within our community.
