EMPHASIS: Captain Larry W. Plunkett Retired September 1, 2022
Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement:
Captain Larry W. Plunkett, director of the Gaming Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO, retired September 1, 2022, after over 33 years of dedicated service. He is the son of the late Sgt. Larry W. Plunkett Sr. (1969-1998) and nephew of retired Capt. Carroll L. Plunkett (1968-1998).
Plunkett was appointed to the Patrol on July 1, 1989, as a member of the 61st Recruit Class. Upon graduating from the Patrol's Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop I, Zone 4, Pulaski County. He was promoted to corporal on July 1, 1994, and designated assistant zone commander of Troop E, Zone 9, Portageville, MO. He transferred to Zone 3, Wayne County, in 1998. He was promoted to sergeant on September 1, 1998. In 2002, Plunkett became the public information and education officer for Troop E. He was promoted to lieutenant on January 8, 2006, and transferred to Troop F Headquarters, Jefferson City. On December 1, 2012, Plunkett was promoted to the rank of captain and designated director of the Criminal Justice Information Services Division. On January 1, 2017, he transferred to the Gaming Division where he served as director.
Capt. Plunkett grew up in Kennett, MO, and graduated from Holcomb High School in Holcomb, MO, in 1985. He earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Southeast Missouri State University in 1988. In 2019, he completed Police Leadership: The West Point Model executive level course. Capt. Plunkett and his wife, Angela, have two children, Lane and Lauren.
