EMPHASIS:
Troop B Begins Escorting Over-Dimension Loads
Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, would like to inform the public Troop B will begin escorting numerous over-dimension loads beginning on Friday, March 20, 2020. The escorts could cause a disruption in traffic patterns and slight delays for motorists in the area. The over-dimension loads are the base sections and blades of the windmills being constructed for the wind farms in the Adair and Schuyler counties.
Beginning March 21, 2020, the Missouri State Highway Patrol will escort approximately eight over-dimension loads each day from Monday through Saturday. The over-dimension loads will be escorted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and a private escort company. The escorts will enter Missouri on U.S. Highway 65 at the Iowa line and travel south to U.S. Highway 136. The loads will then travel east on U.S. Highway 136, and south on U.S. Highway 63 to the Queen City, MO, and Green Top, MO, areas. Four loads will be escorted in the morning and four loads in the early afternoon. The loads will tentatively begin at 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a 30-minute gap between each of the loads to lessen the impact on traffic. The timing of the escorts could vary on a day-to-day basis and could be canceled or postponed due to weather conditions.
Captain Wilt encourages the public to exercise caution and patience if they encounter one of the escorts. Motorists should be prepared to follow the trooper’s directions when encountering these one of the escorts at intersections or bridges due to the size of the over-dimension loads. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June.
Too many people die in traffic crashes each year in Missouri. The choices you make when you’re behind the wheel matter. Make good choices, so you’ll never have to say, “If I could just go back ...”
