EMPHASIS: Brookfield Police Department Officer Involved Shooting

On July 2, 2017, at approximately 10:46 p.m., the Brookfield Police Department began a pursuit on South Main Street, near Helm Street. The vehicle fleeing was an all-terrain vehicle that had been observed driving in a careless manner. At approximately 10:50 p.m., in the 300 block of East Sedgwick, the all-terrain vehicle entered private property and was forced to turn around. A Brookfield police officer had exited his vehicle and was on foot attempting to contact the driver of the vehicle. The driver of the all-terrain vehicle struck the Brookfield police officer with the all-terrain vehicle. The police officer discharged his department issued handgun and struck the suspect two times. The 39-year old male suspect, of Brookfield, Missouri, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a Columbia area hospital by helicopter. The police officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield, Missouri, where he was treated and released. The officer has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident with the assistance of the Brookfield Police Department and the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
