EMPHASIS: Troop A Announces Promotions

Captain Steven V. Wilhoit, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, MO, announces the following promotions effective November 1, 2024.

Trooper Brady A. Shows has been promoted to the rank of corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor of Zone 2, serving the citizens of Platte County. Shows was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on July 1, 2019, as a member of the 108th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 14, serving the citizens of Bates County, where he remained until his promotion. Corporal Shows was born in Memphis, TN. He graduated from North Scott High School, in Eldridge, IA, in 2016. Before joining the Patrol, he graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL, with a Bachelor of Science degree in law enforcement justice administration, in 2019. Corporal Shows is married to his wife Michaela.

Trooper Joseph S. Baughman has been promoted to the rank of corporal and will remain in his current assignment as a marine operations trooper in Zone 20, which covers the southern portion of Troop A. Baughman was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on January 8, 2006, as a member of the 85th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 12, serving the citizens of Franklin County. In September of 2009, Baughman transferred to Troop A, Zone 12, serving the citizens of Johnson County. In November of 2012, Baughman transferred to Zone 15, serving the citizens of Henry County. In March of 2015, Baughman transferred to Zone 20 as a marine operations trooper, where he is currently assigned. Corporal Baughman was born in Clinton, MO. He graduated from Ray-Pec High School in Peculiar, MO, in 1994. Before joining the Patrol, he was a Deputy with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and a Corrections Officer for the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. Corporal Baughman is married and has three children. Trooper Randall W. Rosenthal has been promoted to the rank of corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor of Zone 16, serving the citizens of Benton County. Rosenthal was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on July 2, 2018, as a member of the 106th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 16, serving the citizens of Benton County, where he remains assigned. Corporal Rosenthal was born in Springfield, MO. He graduated from Conway High School, in Conway, MO, in 2016. Before joining the Patrol, he attended Ozark Technical Community College in Lebanon, MO.

Trooper Conrad L. Purnell has been promoted to the rank of corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor on Zone 7, serving the citizens of Jackson County. Purnell was appointed to the Patrol on January 3, 2011, as a member of the 93rd Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop E, Zone 8, which serves the citizens of New Madrid and Pemiscot counties. In November of 2017, Purnell transferred to Troop E, Zone 11, serving the citizens of Stoddard County. In July of 2023, Purnell transferred to Troop A, Zone 3, serving the citizens of Clay County, where he remained until his promotion.

Corporal Purnell graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, MO. Before joining the Patrol, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO. Corporal Purnell is married and has one child.
