EMPHASIS: Officer Involved Shooting In Sedalia

On June 30, 2007, at approximately 2:01 p.m., a Sedalia Police Officer responded to a residence on North Lamine reference a domestic disturbance call. Upon the officer’s arrival at the residence, a subject later identified as David E. Morgan, 59, of Sedalia, Missouri, was sitting on the front porch in a chair brandishing a knife. The officer repeatedly ordered Morgan to drop the knife and Morgan ignored the officer’s orders. Morgan reportedly rose from his chair, raised the knife, and lunged at the officer. The officer fired one shot, striking Morgan in the upper torso. Morgan was transported to Bothwell Regional Hospital in Sedalia, where he succumbed to his injuries during surgery.
The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure, pending the outcome of the investigation.
At the request of Sedalia Police Chief John DeGonia, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is conducting the investigation.
