Traffic Stop On Interstate 55 Results In Drug Arrest
On November 1, 2017, at approximately 2 p.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway stopped a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan for a traffic violation. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Interstate 55, in New Madrid County.
The driver was identified as Angel Larar-Esteban, 27, of Phoenix, Arizona. During the traffic stop, several indicators of criminal activity were observed causing the trooper to become suspicious. Consent to search the vehicle was requested and granted. During the search, 4.8 pounds of pure Fentanyl was sized. The street value is estimated to be more than $3 million. To date, this is the largest Fentanyl seizure in the state of Missouri. Larar-Esteban was arrested for felony drug trafficking and endangering the welfare of a child.
The charges for which Larar-Esteban were arrested are mere accusation and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
