EMPHASIS: Results of DWI Checkpoint In Jackson County On March 17, 2017

Captain Scott Shipers, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted from 11 p.m. on Friday, March 17, to 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017. The checkpoint, located on Southwest Trafficway at 33rd Street, was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 1,314 vehicles were stopped during this four-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following arrests:

42 -- DWIs
1 -- driver’s license summons
25 -- non-moving traffic violations
3 -- misdemeanor drug arrests

Captain Shipers stated, "The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators," said Captain Shipers. "The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

To report a suspected intoxicated driver dial 9-1-1 or *55 on your cell phone.

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
