EMPHASIS: Officer Involved Shooting - Callaway County

On October 14, 2024, Callaway County Sheriff’s Office deputies were involved in an officer involved shooting on Interstate 70, near the 139 mile-marker, in Callaway County, Missouri. At the request of the Callaway County Sheriff, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control was requested to investigate the shooting.

Preliminary investigation revealed Jonathan A. Beason, 37, of Medina, Texas, was fatally shot after exchanging gunfire with Callaway County deputies on a traffic stop. Beason was pronounced deceased on scene, and a firearm was recovered by investigators.

The investigation is ongoing by criminal investigators with the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control. Upon completion of the investigation, the reports will be forwarded to the Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney for review.
