Troop B Announces Retirement Of Trooper Brian T. Hillyer
Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces effective January 1, 2019, Trooper Brian T. Hillyer will retire from the Missouri State Highway Patrol after 24 years of dedicated service.
Trooper Hillyer was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 1995, as a member of the 69th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol Academy, he was assigned to Troop B, Zone 6, Clark and Scotland counties. It is from this assignment that Hillyer retires.
During his tenure Trooper Hillyer was assigned to numerous details across the state including the state fair detail, Al Gore security detail, 1999 Governors Convention, and the Ferguson, Missouri, detail. Trooper Hillyer was also assigned to the Hurricane Katrina detail in Louisiana.
Trooper Hillyer is a native of Imogene, Iowa, and graduated from Nishna Valley High School. He graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in sociology and a minor in criminal justice. He served in the United States Navy from 1986 until he was honorably discharged in 1992. He is married to Karma (Spence) and they have two children: Bailee (Hillyer) Kiger, Shannon Hillyer, and three grandchildren.
The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober.
“Don’t Violate The Trust.”
