EMPHASIS: California, MO, Man Charged With Forgery And Stealing

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) announces prosecutorial charges against Douglas S. Naros, 57, of California, MO. Naros was formally charged on February 13, 2026, in connection with a fraud/theft investigation conducted by the Troop F Criminal Investigative Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

On January 28, 2026, the Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office requested DDCC investigate allegations of theft committed by a Moniteau County Commissioner. During the investigation, investigators obtained evidence collaborating witness statements and determined Naros as a suspect. The investigation also revealed that over $3,755 worth of services and/or property were stolen from Moniteau County, beginning in March 2025. As a result of the investigation, DDCC investigators submitted a probable cause statement to the Morgan County Prosecutor, seeking felony charges on the former Moniteau County Commissioner. The Morgan County Prosecutor was appointed as the special prosecutor in the case.

On February 13, 2026, the Morgan County Prosecuting Attorney formally charged Naros with one count of Forgery and two counts of Stealing - $750.00 or More. Naros has been issued a court ordered subpoena to appear in Moniteau County court.

The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence. DDCC encourages individuals to promptly report to the Patrol or local law enforcement, anyone who commits financial crimes.
