EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop on Interstate 57 Results In Drug Arrest

On April 9, 2011, at approximately 11:40 p.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a 2005 Volvo Conventional tractor and trailer traveling northbound on Interstate 57 in Mississippi for a traffic violation.

The driver was identified as Angelo Rogers, 41, of Markham, Illinois. During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper became suspicious and permission to search was requested and granted. During the subsequent search of the trailer unit, approximately 500 pounds of marijuana was located behind the load. The driver also had a loaded semi automatic pistol. Rogers was arrested for drug trafficking and unlawful use of a weapon.

The charges for which Rogers was arrested are mere accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
