Troop I Reports Zero Fatalities During Memorial Day Holiday
Captain Eddie A. Blaylock, commanding officer of Troop I, announces there were no fatalities reported and significantly less injuries reported during the Memorial Day holiday counting period, in the Troop I area. The 2020 counting period began at 6 p.m., Friday, May 22, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, May 25.
Troop I troopers investigated 27 vehicle crashes with five reported injuries during the 2020 counting period. During the 2019 Memorial Day weekend, troopers investigated 30 crashes, which included 11 injuries and one fatality.
During this year’s holiday weekend, six DWI arrests, two boating while intoxicated arrests, and 12 drug arrests were reported. Troopers also reported one boating crash with one injury.
“Zero fatalities, fewer crashes, and fewer injuries is definitely a step in the right direction,” said Captain Blaylock. “We work hard to ensure a safe environment for all who travel and visit our state. Reducing crashes is a collective endeavor. When we see numbers of injuries and fatal crashes decline, we know the motoring public is also doing their part.”
Too many people die in traffic crashes each year in Missouri. The choices you make when you’re behind the wheel matter. Make good choices, so you’ll never have to say, “If I could just go back ...”
