EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Promotions

Captain D. Scott Sater, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, is pleased to announce the following promotions effective July 1, 2023.

Corporal Timothy A. Barrett is being promoted to the rank of sergeant and will remain in his present assignment in the criminal interdiction/canine unit at Troop D. Barrett was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol in January 2007, as a member of the 86th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop D, Zone 14, which serves the citizens of Barry County. In April 2010, Barrett transferred to Zone 5, Jasper County, and continued his work as a road officer. In March 2016, he was assigned to Troop D’s criminal interdiction unit as a canine officer. In April 2018, Barrett was promoted to the rank of corporal and remained in that assignment.


Sergeant Barrett was born in Joplin, Missouri. He graduated from Carthage High School, Carthage, Missouri, in 2000. He graduated in 2002 from Missouri Southern State University, in Joplin, with an associate degree in law enforcement. Prior to his appointment with the Patrol in 2006, he was employed as a police officer with the Carthage Police Department. Sergeant Barrett is married and has three children.

Corporal William J. Wood is being promoted to the rank of sergeant and designated the supervisor of Zone 9, which serves Cedar and St. Clair counties. Wood was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on January 16, 2013, as a member of the 96
th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop D, Zone 9. Wood was promoted to the rank of corporal in Zone 9 on June 1, 2021.

Sergeant Wood was born in West Plains, Missouri. He graduated from West Plains High School in 2010. Before joining the Patrol, he earned an associate of arts in general studies from Missouri State University – West Plains. Sergeant Wood is married, and he and his wife, Niki, have two children, Cooper and Adella.
