EMPHASIS: Interstate 70 H.E.A.T. Enforcement Effort

Colonel James F. Keathley, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the results for the cooperative High Enforcement Action Team (H.E.A.T.) effort. Seventeen law enforcement agencies provided additional enforcement activity on Interstate 70 during a specific 24-hour period. Departments patrolled Interstate 70 from 6 a.m., on Friday, October 23, 2009 through 6 a.m., on Saturday, October 24, 2009.

The following totals reflect the enforcement contacts for all agencies:

DWI -- 22,
Following Too Close -- 44,
Stop Sign Violations -- 4
Signal Light Violations -- 11,
Failed To Yield -- 10
Careless & Imprudent -- 7
Speed -- 888
Other HMV -- 104
Seat Belt -- 59
Child Restraint -- 3
Other Non-Moving HMV -- 183

Total Violations -- 1,335

Felony Arrests -- 7
Drug Arrests -- 4
Fugitives Apprehended -- 15
Suspended/Revoked License -- 40
Uninsured Motorists -- 100

Total Traffic Stops -- 1,191

Total Hours Worked -- 704

Participating agencies included: MSHP Troops A, C, and F, Berkeley Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Columbia Police Department, Foristell Police Department, Grain Valley Police Department, Independence Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Kansas City Police Department, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, Northwoods Police Department, O'Fallon Police Department, Pine Lawn Police Department, St. Louis County Police Department, St. Louis Metro Police Department, St. Peters Police Department, and Wentzville Police Department.


“All 17 police agencies involved in this High Enforcement Action Team effort should be recognized,” said Col. Keathley. “This joint effort helped to remind drivers on Interstate 70 of the importance of obeying all traffic laws. I wish to express my sincerest thanks to all of the departments that participated.”
