EMPHASIS: Make A Difference Day

Colonel Sandra K. Karsten, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, is pleased to inform the public about the agency’s participation in Make a Difference Day. October 28 has been reserved as a day for volunteers and communities to join in a common goal of improving the lives of others. This year, the Patrol is partnering with 5 On Your Side and St. Louis Public Schools to make a difference for Yeatman-Liddell Middle School. Volunteers will install new basketball goals in the gymnasium, renovate several rooms (nurse’s office, art room, teachers’ lounge) and front entryway, work on landscaping, and paint.

“We are pleased to be part of Make a Difference Day,” said Col. Sandra Karsten. “This is the kind of project that benefits the entire community. This type of event is perfectly aligned with the Patrol’s mission of service and protection.”

In years past, Make a Difference Day has been a one-day, stand-alone event. However, this year it serves as a kick-off event for an ongoing initiative. Volunteers will travel to schools throughout the district working to provide students with an inspiring place to attend school each day.

“’Make a Difference Day’ planning has been humbling, emotional, and inspiring, and I’ve witnessed the greatness of the youth in our community,” said Capt. Johnson. “The success of the project is defined in the community of diverse volunteers who – without hesitation – agreed to be part of an endeavor to instill pride, purpose, and re-affirm to our youth that they are valued.”
