EMPHASIS: Lieutenant Terry Potter Transfers To Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces effective March 1, 2018, Lieutenant Terry Potter transferred from Troop C, Weldon Spring, to Troop D, Springfield.

Lieutenant Potter was appointed to the Patrol on March 15, 2000. After graduating from the Patrol's Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop A, Lee's Summit, and worked in Zone 16, serving Benton County. On April 1, 2005, Potter transferred to Troop C, Zone 5, serving Lincoln and Pike counties. In September 2008, while remaining in the same zone, Potter was promoted to corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor. In September 2011, he was promoted to sergeant and designated the zone supervisor of Zone 9, serving St. Charles County. In March 2016, he was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to Troop C, Weldon Spring.

Lieutenant Potter was born in Fort Gordon, Georgia, and graduated from Osceola High School in Osceola, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1985 to July 1989, where he achieved the rank of E-4 specialist in the 82nd Airborne Division. Potter earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, in 1993. Prior to joining the Patrol, Potter was employed as a teacher in the Osceola School District. Lieutenant Potter is married to Rita (Wynes) Potter.
