EMPHASIS: Troop E Releases Independence Day Enforcement Totals

Captain Jeffrey N. Vitale, commanding officer of Troop E, Poplar Bluff, announces the Independence Day holiday traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop E area, which consists of 13 counties in Southeast Missouri. Troop E officers working on Interstate 55 participated in the enforcement project. Troopers assigned to this operation worked 12-hour shifts to patrol 20-mile intervals on major highways and interstates in Southeast Missouri on Friday, July, 1, and on Monday, July, 4, 2016.Totals from this operation include:

135--speed summonses
35--seat belt summonses
13--driving while intoxicated arrests
15--drug arrests
283--warnings
64--motorist assists

Captain Vitale said, “Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts.”

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
