EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E DWI Checkpoint In Cape Girardeau County

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Troop E, Cape Girardeau County, beginning on July 2, 2010, at 11 p.m., and ending on July 3, 2010, at 3 a.m. During the operation, troopers were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint at a location known to have a high number of alcohol-related arrests and traffic crashes.
Troopers made seven arrests during the shift: six driving while intoxicated arrests and one misdemeanor warrant arrest. Traffic citations issued by officers included five for failure to wear a safety belt, three for no driver’s license, one uninsured motorist, one hazardous moving violation, one non-moving violation, and one child restraint violation. Troopers also issued 102 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.
Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in Southeast Missouri. DWI checkpoints are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri roadways. The troopers in the Troop E area will continue to pursue this goal.”
