EMPHASIS: Sgt. Thomas R. Walley Promoted To Lieutenant Effective February 1, 2022

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following promotion:

Sergeant Thomas R. Walley, Q/RDD, is being promoted to the rank of lieutenant and will remain in the Research and Development Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO, effective February 1, 2022.

Walley was appointed to the Patrol on July 1, 1994, as a member of the 67th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop B, Zone 6, Clark and Scotland counties. He transferred to Troop F, Zone 2, Cole County, in May 2002. Walley was promoted to corporal on March 1, 2004, and designated assistant zone supervisor of Troop F, Zone 8, Callaway County. In January 2014, he transferred to the Research and Development Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO. Walley was promoted to sergeant on February 1, 2016, and remained in that assignment.

Lt. Walley was born in Galesburg, IL, and graduated from Colchester High School, Colchester, IL, in 1989. He is a graduate of Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in law enforcement administration in 1993. In 2017, he graduated from the Leadership In Police Organizations training. Lt. Walley and his wife, Melissa, have two children.
