Troop C Marine Operations Discourages Boating In Flooded Streams And Rivers
Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, discourages citizens from boating in flooded streams and rivers. Large amounts of rainfall forecasted for Eastern Missouri this weekend could cause area rivers and streams to flood including the potential for flash flooding. Flooded rivers and streams with moving currents present some of the most dangerous situations a boater can encounter. Many times, the right decision is to stay off the water. Fast moving water can easily capsize or flip a boat, especially when combined with fixed objects or floating debris. Captain Johnson encourages everyone to always wear a life jacket and use common sense and good judgement. Do not attempt to drive over a flooded stream or creek.
Watercraft operators must consider the effect their actions have on others: Share the waterway and use common sense, good judgment, and courtesy to ensure the safety of all. Life jackets save lives. Wear It!!
