EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) Enforcement Operations

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program’s SAFETE operations in Jasper and Newton counties on April 14, 2016. SAFETE is an enforcement program focusing on violations of commercial motor vehicles. During the operations, troopers stopped a total of 26 commercial vehicles and 11 non-commercial vehicles. Additionally, 23 commercial motor vehicle inspections were conducted, which resulted in two commercial vehicles and one driver being placed out-of-service. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operations in Jasper and Newton counties, respectively.

Jasper County

Commercial Vehicle Hazardous Moving Violations -- 4
Seat Belt Violation -- 1
Speed Offenses -- 2

Troopers also issued 14 warnings for various other offenses during this operation.

Newton County

Commercial Vehicle Arrest -- 1
Seat Belt Violations -- 2
Speed Offense -1
Non-Moving Violations -- 2

Troopers also issued 38 warnings for various other offenses during this operation.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
