EMPHASIS: Troop E Officers To Participate in "10-Mile Trooper Project"

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, Poplar Bluff, announces a program designed to provide maximum manpower during the travel days of the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The program has the operational name of 10-mile trooper. The design of the program will provide a trooper at least every ten miles on designated highways. The designated highways in Troop E are Interstate 55 and U.S. Highways 60 and 61. The dates of the program are May 22, 2009, and May 25, 2009. Troopers will be located in both stationary and moving observational positions. They will monitor traffic and watch for drivers that are following too close, making improper lane changes, and driving while intoxicated. Troopers will be observing a zero tolerance policy for motorists who are stopped for a traffic violation and are not wearing a seat belt. The operation is 12 hours in length each day.
